S091 SA GM45 at Whyalla
Introduced by the Commonwealth Railways in 1955 the GM12 class totalled 45 engines, with the last not entering traffic until January 1968. They are a very versatile engine and saw extensive service throughout the north of South Australia and on trains across the Nullarbor. Even with the introduction of more modern and powerful types the GMs could still be seen on the main line hauling wheat, oil and general goods trains.
In August 1995, GM45 was pictured at Whyalla waiting to depart with the afternoon steel train.
